More Than Lips was born in 2019 after a dear friend of mine was admitted to an inpatient program at CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) while struggling with her mental health. During her time there, one of the activities was making homemade lip balm.

She showed me what she had made, and I was shocked that something with such simple ingredients could work so well. It got me thinking: the things we put in and on our bodies don’t have to be complicated to really work.

Inspired by my friend and her creation, I was determined to make something better than the lip balms I was seeing on the shelves of my favourite stores.

So, I started experimenting in my parents’ basement, developing a simple, plant-based formula. Just as important to me was finding a way to package it in an environmentally friendly way.

Then the name came to me: More Than Lips.

Because from the very beginning, I knew this product and everything my small business stands for, would create an impact far beyond just caring for lips. 

That belief has guided More Than Lips ever since. We create thoughtful, plant-based lip care that feels good to use, and actually works.

What began with me hand-pouring lip balm in my parents’ basement has grown into a Canadian brand found in retailers across the country. But no matter how much we grow, our purpose remains the same: create a Canadian brand you can trust with thoughtful products that are better for you, better for the planet, and make everyday self-care feel a little more meaningful.

I’ve always believed MTL is about more than lip balm. It's a gentle daily reminder of self-care and community you can fit in your pocket and take with you wherever you go.
